Cambridge is situated
20 minutes south of Hamilton on SH1 and is a favourite
stop for travelers heading north or south and is a
short drive to many tourist destinations. Cambridge
is known as "The Town of Trees" situated
on the bank of the Waikato River, it is steeped in
history, much of which can be seen on the Heritage
Trail Walk. Cambridge truly offers something for everyone
and is well known for the number of antique shops
and galleries and of course the many world acclaimed
Stud Farms. Not far away is Lake Karapiro being the
pride of New Zealand's rowers and a jewel in the crown
of Waipa District, offering an international class
watersports venue 7.7 square kilometres of flat water

The scenery in the Waikato region
is simply stunning. Above ground there is the Waikato
River, Hamilton Gardens and Matamata (at which some
of the Lord of the Rings set remains). To witness
the limestone grottos you need to head underground
to a subterranean wonderland, Waitomo Caves, where
you can go caving. Experienced guides will educate
you about the formations, which feature the Cathedral
Cave - an impressive cavern with awesome natural acoustics.
The tour finishes with a boat ride through the world
famous Glow Worm Grotto, where the glow worms illuminate
the cavern wall.
Not far away is Hamilton, where you
can take a cruise on the Waikato River, visit the
Hamilton Zoo or stroll through the historic themed
Hamilton gardens.
