Things to do while you are here

Cambridge, "The Town of Trees", is situated on the bank of the Waikato River. Cambridge truly offers something for everyone and is well known for the number of antique shops and galleries and of course the many world acclaimed Stud Farms. Walk, jog or run around town or via the Te Awa River Trail to Avantidrome and back.

Not far away is Lake Karapiro being the pride of New Zealand's rowers, offering an international class watersports venue 7.7 square kilometres of flat water for picnickers, canoeists, water-skiers, yachts and of course rowers.

The scenery in the Waikato region is simply stunning. Above ground there is the Waikato River, Hamilton Gardens and Matamata. To witness the limestone grottos you need to head underground to a subterranean wonderland, Waitomo Caves, where you can go caving.

Rotorua, Taupo, Waitomo and Bay of Plenty, among to name a few, is within a leisurely 1 1/2 hour drive from the motel.

Stud Farm Tour

Depending on the time of year you visit these studs will determine what you see. The Southern Hemisphere breeding season runs from 01 August to the end of December and mares and young foals will be seen during this period. The breeding barn along with the stallions can also be viewed. Yearling sales take place January / February.

Glowworm Kayak Trip

This fantastic kayak adventure offers something very special for the whole family. Start from the Epworth camp and kayak our way down a truly beautiful section of the Waikato River, to the Pokewhaenua stream. With stunning twilight lake views we head under the Pokewhaenua Bridge and into the glow-worm canyon.

Hamilton Gardens

Hamilton Gardens is a public garden in the south of Hamilton, owned and managed by Hamilton City Council. They are the Waikato Region's most popular visitor attraction, attracting more than 1 million people and holding over 2,000 events each year. The gardens present the theme of 'the story of gardens' and are divided into the Paradise, Productive, Fantasy, Cultivar and Landscape garden collections.

Waitomo Caves

The glow worm, Arachnocampa luminosa, is unique to New Zealand. Thousands of these tiny creatures radiate their unmistakable luminescent light as our expert guides provide informative commentary on the Caves' historical and geological significance.
Waitomo Glowworm Caves are a must see for any traveller. Enjoy the world famous boat ride under thousands of magical glowworms and become a part of over 120 years of cultural and natural history.
